The Vietnamese squad left for Uzbekistan Wednesday to participate in the 2010 Asian U16 football championship.
The team will play Japan on Monday October 25 before taking on the other Group C rivals Australia and East Timor on the 27th and 29th respectively.
With Japan and Australia in the same group, it will be very hard for the Vietnamese boys to be among the best two teams to advance.
However, the team has the potential to upset big teams like they did in the qualifying round (beating South Korea).
The national squad also won the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Under-16 Championship after defeating China 1-0 in the final match at the Manahan Stadium in Indonesia on September 26.
