Host Vietnam earned a trip to the semifinals of the 2012 Asian Football Federation (AFF) Women's Championship after beating the Philippines 4-2 at Ho Chi Minh City's Thong Nhat Stadium on Saturday.
Overcoming the rain and slippery pitch, the Vietnamese women played well throughout, taking control of the match early on.
Vietnam's relentless attacks translated into two goals in the first eight minutes, after which Vietnam's Chinese coach had the players play conservatively to avoid injuries.
Shortly after the break, the Philippines got on the scoreboard to pull within a goal, but soon after Thanh Huong and Tuyet Dung both scored to make it 4-1.
The Vietnamese women managed their lead well, and though the team from the Philippines had their chances, they did not score their final goal until the final minute of the game.
Previously, the Vietnamese women's team beat Singapore 10-0 on Thursday. Next, they face off against Myanmar in the final round of Group B matches on Monday with a chance to capture first place within the group.
