Le Tu Chinh came first in women’s 200m sprint at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, securing the second gold for Vietnam at the biennial event.
The 19-year-old finished with 23.94 seconds, followed by Thailand’s Supanich Poolkerd with 24.41 seconds and Malaysia’s Mohd Sabri Noor Eewan Syafiqah with 24.50 secs.
“This is my best record. I am very happy,” she said.
On Monday, Vietnam's Khuat Phuong Anh also won a silver medal in women’s 400m with 59.78 seconds. There was also a bronze medal for Nguyen Linh Na in heptathlon.
Vietnam ranked 7th among 18 countries and territories with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
“This was one of the best performances of Vietnam's athletic team at a regional event. Three athletes were also qualified for the IAAF World Junior Athletics Championships in Poland in July,” said Duong Duc Thuy, head of the national athletic team.
Japan emerged on the top of the final medal tally with 13 gold, 10 silver and four bronze medals, followed by China with 11 gold medals and India with seven.
