Vietnam win 3rd gold at Asian Youth Games

Swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won a second gold medal while Ly Hoang Nam entered the boys' singles tennis finals at the Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China, Thursday.

After her gold in the girls' 200m backstroke Wednesday, 16-year-old Vien won the 200m medley event in 2 minutes 15.09 seconds ahead of Thailand's Sarisa Suwannachet.

It was the third gold for Vietnam in the games after Nguyen Thi Truc Mai won the girls' long jump with an attempt of 5.90 meters Wednesday.

Meanwhile, after making history by becoming the first Vietnamese to advance to the semifinals of an Asian youth tournament, 16-year-old Nam continued his great display by beating Kazakh player Dmitry Popko in straight sets in the last four.

In the final he will clash with Filipino second seed Zosimo Mendoza, who scored a 2-1 win over Wong Hong Kit of Hong Kong in the semis.

The Vietnamese team have also won five silver and two bronze medals to place eighth out of 26 teams at the second edition of the Asian Youth Games.
