Vietnamese indoor footballers upset reigning world champion Brazil to finish third at the four-team International Futsal Cup held Friday at Ho Chi Minh City's Phu Tho Sports Complex.
Earlier, Vietnam lost 2-1 to Asian champions Japan; and 3-1 to the Southeast Asian champions Thailand, while Brazil defeated both those squads.
Brazil had already wrapped up the championship of the event before the final game against Vietnam, which may have caused them to play less aggressively. Nevertheless, the 3-2 win was still sweet and for the Vietnamese players and local fans.
Trong Luan scored the opener for Vietnam. Brazil tied the score before half time and then took a 2-1 lead after the break.
The Vietnamese side remained composed, scoring two goals on counterattacks.
Japan finished second after two wins apiece over Vietnam and Thailand and a loss to Brazil, while Thailand finished last with a win over Vietnam and two losses to both Japan and Brazil.
