A Vietnamese team will compete at the 2011 Asian Men's Volleyball Club Championship to be held July 23-31 in Palembang, Indonesia.

They will clash with competitors from China, Japan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and hosts Indonesia during the nine-day contest.

There are now 18 players in the Vietnamese squad in Hanoi from whom 12 would be chosen.

After the event, the team is likely to go on a training trip to China to prepare for the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia in November.

However, the team's Brazilian coach Augusto Sabatini, who is on a two-month trial period, is not likely to sign an official contract and domestic coach Nguyen Manh Hung is likely to take charge, according to local reports.

In related news, Thailand came from two sets behind to beat Vietnam in their final round match at Vinh Phuc Province on Saturday, June 25, to win the Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship.

China came second while Kazakhstan was third and hosts Vietnam took fourth place.

Apart from hosts Vietnam, the tournament attracted seven other teams from Japan, Iran, Indonesia, China, Kazakhstan, Thailand and the Philippines.
