Vietnamese players Duong Anh Vu and Ma Xuan Cuong lost to Danish rivals Thomas Anderson and Tonny Carlsen in the quarterfinals of the World Team 3-cushion Championships in Germany on Saturday.

Vietnam's No.2 player Ma Xuan Cuong beat Anderson in the first set and the Dane won the second set. While they were 1-1 in the third set, Vietnam's No.1 player Duong Anh Vu had lost 3-0 to Carlsen at the next table.

Carlsen's straight set win plus the 1-1 result between Cuong and Anderson ensured Denmark a berth in the semifinals without Cuong and Anderson finishing their match.

However, advancing to the quarterfinals of the World Cup was already an achievement for the Vietnamese billiards players.

In other quarterfinal matches, Japanese players lost to Belgian rivals, the runners-up of last year's event, while the Republic of Korea was beaten by Spain.

The semifinals will be a European affair with Germany playing Denmark and Belgium facing Spain.
