Vietnam's national men footballers played exceptionally against Eintracht Frankfurt but still ended the friendly with a 0-2 defeat to the Bundesliga 1 club at Hanoi's My Dinh Stadium Thursday.
There were not many dangerous shots on either end of the field but the hosts' efforts made the game more exciting than most friendly matches.
Eintracht Frankfurt finished 10th in Germany's top tier league this year.
They played enthusiastically and demonstrated why they are one of the world's best clubs. They launched effective attacks and their best strikers Alexander Meier and Halil Altintop scored two goals in the 71st and 72nd minutes.
Vietnam had a clear chance on at least one fast break early on but Quang Hai failed to score the opener.
The local squad's coach Henrique Calisto said that with some of his best players missing, he was happy with the performance in the first half.
He said it was a good game in his eyes.
The visitors' coach Michael Skippe said Vietnam exhibited fine team work and played strategically well, leaving him with a very good impression.
