Vietnam lost 2-4 to Qatar in their second game at the Hanoi Futsal Open 2011 at Hanoi's Quan Ngua Sports Center on Saturday.
The hosts were expected to have an easy game against Qatar after beating China 2-0 in the opener on Friday while Qatar lost 1-6 to Uzbekistan.
However, the Vietnamese players didn't take their scoring chances early in the game against Qatar and paid dearly after 13 minutes when Rashid Yousuf Al Boinin opened the score with a powerful shot past Vietnamese goalkeeper Phuoc Anh.
The hosts worked hard for an equalizer but could only find the equalizer in the second half via a beautiful strike by Ba Tuan.
The equalizer heightened the spirits of the reigning champs but they conceded two goals in the 35th and 36th minutes, scored by Amro Abdelaal and Rashid Yousuf Al Boinin.
A couple of minutes later, Quynh Toan pulled one goal back for Vietnam to make it 2-3 but Rodrigo Rocha scored Qatar's fourth goal in the match just before the final whistle.
Now it looks extremely hard for Vietnam to retain their title because they will play their third match against tournament leaders Uzbekistan who have won both their matches.
