Vietnam, Japan slam Australia to enter AFF U19 Cup’s semifinals

Japan and Vietnam both earned early tickets to the semifinal round after defeating Australia at the ASEAN Football Federation’s Nutifood U-19 Cup 2014.
Japan had a tough 4-3 victory at Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium on Sunday over Australia who was in a thirst for winning after losing 0-1 to host Vietnam on Friday (September 5).
Australia started the game with good defense and sharp attacks with Scott scored the first goal at the 13th minute.
However, Japan had a good come-back near the end of the first half with two scores by Ochi Yamato and Okugawa.
In the second half, Australia leveled the score but Okugawa got his double to lead 3-2 again.
Australia got a penalty kick to level the score again but Japan’s Harry scored the last goal of the match to earn a victory.
Both Japan and Vietnam got three points in Group B and advanced to semifinals, despite they will meet on Tuesday (September 9) in the qualifying round.
Earlier on Friday, Vietnam’s striker Cong Phuong had an amazing performance to score the only goal in the match against Australia.
The 19-year-old captain, hailing from Hoang Anh Gia Lai Arsenal JMG Football Academy, was touted as Vietnam’s Messi (Barcelona’s striker) after passing six Australian defenders to have a thundering shot into Australia’s goal.
Vietnam also defeated Australia 5-1 at the AFC U19 Championship qualifier last year.
In Group A, Thailand had a 6-2 victory over last year’s champion Indonesia on September 5 but lost 1-2 to Myanmar on Sunday. Two semifinal tickets in Group A will be decided at the September 9 match between Indonesia and Myanmar.
