Hosts Vietnam thrashed Myanmar 8-1 in the opener of the Southeast Asian Futsal Championship 2010 at Ho Chi Minh City's Phu Tho Sports Center on Monday.
The hosts didn't start the match very well and Zinlin Aung scored the opener for the visitors after four minutes.
Vietnam, coached by Italian tactician Sergio Gargelli, then improved its defense and played good offense for the rest of the game.
Quoc Tuan equalized the score four minutes after the opening goal before Hoang Giang and Trong Thien netted to help Vietnam lead 3-1 before the interval.
Vietnam had better ball control in the second half and Tuan struck again four minutes after half time before Bao Minh's double and Anh Dung and Quoc Bao's goals wrapped up an amazing victory for the hosts.
In another match, Malaysia also took three points from a 5-3 win over the Philippines.
The April 5-11 indoor football event is being contested by five teams from Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
The five squads will compete in a round-robin contest and the best two teams will fight for the championship in the finals on April 11.
