The Vietnam Tennis Federation (VTF) met with Michael Baroch, former coach of the world's No. 1 woman tennis player Maria Sharapova, in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday August 4.

After a day of working with and observing Vietnam's best players, Baroch said, "The Vietnamese players need to focus on improving technical skills."

He said they are still unable to control their strength very well, making it impossible for them to play their games effectively.

He suggested Vietnam's best woman player Dai Trang lose three to seven kilos. He also invited Vietnam's best young player, Nguyen Hoang Thien, to come to Singapore for a free training session on September 15.

Nguyen Quoc Ky, VTF's Vice Chairman and General Secretary, said the federation will continue to work with Baroch and hopes he will agree to train Vietnamese players.

Baroch was Maria Sharapova's coach from 2003 to 2005 and helped the Russian, currently the world's No. 3 woman player, win the Wimbledon championship in 2004. Baroch is Director and Head coach of the Melbourne International Tennis School in Singapore.
