The General Department of Physical Training & Sports has approved the Vietnam Football Federation's proposal to extend China's Chen Yun Fat's contract as coach of the women's national football team.
The move came after the Chinese coach led the national team to the ASEAN Women's championship at Ho Chi Minh City's Thong Nhat Stadium earlier this month.
Coach Fat started working with the Vietnamese women's team in 2007 and helped them win the gold medal at the South East Asian Games in 2009.
In addition to staying on top of Southeast Asia, Vietnamese women will now try to win a berth at the World Cup 2015 in Canada. The International Football Federation (FIFA) has increased the number of teams from 16 to 24. Now, five of best Asian teams can qualify for the event instead of the earlier three.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has been banned after five players failed dope tests at the World Cup 2011, creating a chance for Vietnam to be among the top five, behind Japan, China, Australia and the Republic of Korea.
