Hosts Vietnam were held to a 2-2 draw by Myanmar in their second Group F match of the 2012 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-19 Championships at HCMC's Thong Nhat Stadium on Friday.
After a scoreless draw against Malaysia in the opener on Monday, the hosts were looking for a clear victory and it looked like they would be able to do it after Thanh Hien scored the opener for Vietnam in just two minutes.
However, serious penalty area errors by defender Huynh Tan Tai, who was later sent off with two yellow cards, put Myanmar in the lead after 15 minutes. Myanmar captain Naing Lin Oo scored both goals from the penalty spot.
The hosts were forced to play with 10 men on the field after just 15 minutes, and they tried very hard to restore parity. Their efforts finally earned them an equalizer after Thanh Hien scored his second goal from a penalty kick eight minutes from time.
In another match, the U19 team from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea beat Laos 2-0 to lead the group with six points, ahead of second-placed Malaysia with four points.
Vietnam and Myanmar are in the third and fourth position with two points each while Laos are at the bottom with only one point.
Vietnam will next take on Laos on Sunday before clashing with the group leaders DPR Korea on Tuesday.
