Despite not qualifying for the next round, Vietnamese footballers had a fair-play match, securing a 1-1 draw against China at the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) U19 Football Championship in Myanmar on Monday.
In the match against Vietnam, China mostly defended with swift counterattacks and Vietnam had more ball possession.
Thanh Tung scored a goal from a narrow angle in the 20 minutes for Vietnam to take the lead.
Vietnam players continued to dominate ball possession in the rest time of the first half with the support of more than 3,000 Vietnamese fans at the Yangon stadium.
Vietnam continued to attack in the second half but it was China’s Tang Shi who had a goal to level the score with a shot to the far angle.
Thanks to the draw, China advanced to the quarterfinals with Japan who defeated South Korea 2-1 in a match taking place at the same time.
Before the last matches of the qualifying round, China and South Korea both had four points each and Japan got three points, leaving the trio competing for the group’s two slots to the next round.
