The Vietnamese team finished atop the third edition of the 2013 World Vovinam (Vietnamese martial arts) Championships that concluded in Paris on July 7.
Vietnamese martial artists won 18 gold and two bronze medals to take the top spot for the third consecutive year.
The host French contingent won nine gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals to finish second, followed by Algeria with six gold, five silver, and six bronze medals. Romania finished fourth.
Master Nguyen Van Chieu, Chief Executive of the Vovinam Managing Masters' Council, said, "The fact that 14 out of 18 delegations won medals at the event indicates that Vovinam is spreading throughout the world and its competitors are improving."
At this year's event, Japanese and Bangladeshi martial arts competed for the first time and Bangladesh won a bronze medal.
Algeria is set to host the fourth edition of the annual event next year.
