Defending champions Vietnam failed to make it to the finals of the 2010 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup after being held to a goalless draw by Malaysia in the second leg of the semifinals on Thursday, December 18.
Making it to the finals was an uphill task for the national team after they'd lost lost 0-2 in Kuala Lumpur in the first leg of the semifinal three days earlier.
With a home win in the first leg under their belt, the Malaysian players played very defensive football, making it extremely hard for the Vietnamese footballers to get through.
The Vietnamese players had more ball possession and launched relentless attacks all through the 90 minutes, but they failed to score a single goal.
In the first leg of the other semifinal, Indonesian players had taken a 1-0 victory over the Philippines and are likely to set up a clash with Malaysia in the final match of the biennial event.
