Vietnam will play Japan at the final round on Saturday (September 13) after defeating Myanmar 4-1 at the ASEAN Football Federation’s Nutifood U19 Cup 2014’s semifinal on Thursday.
Vietnam had a dominant start with good coordination among Cong Phuong, Van Toan and Quang Hai at the My Dinh Stadium with roughly 40,000 spectators.
At 22nd minute, Van Long had a shot passing Myanmar goalkeeper Min Latt but it bounced out after hitting the crossbar.
Tuan Anh scored the first goal for Vietnam from outside the penalty area after passing Myanmar defenders at 30th minute.
Just nine minutes later, Vietnam had a free kick near the penalty area and Xuan Truong scored the second goal for Vietnam.
In the second half, Vietnam continued to attack and Van Toan got a pass from Cong Phuong to defeat Myanmar goalkeeper at 51st minute.
After the third goal, Vietnam players slowed down the match, allowing Myanmar’s Aung Thu to score a goal just three minutes later to shorten the score difference.
At 66th minute, Van Long scored a goal for Vietnam after receiving a good pass from Xuan Truong.
4-1 was the final score, enabling Vietnam to have an impressive revenge for its 4-3 loss to Myanmar at the 2014 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy in Brunei last month.
Earlier on Thursday, Japan defeated Thailand 2-1 at the other semifinal.
OnTuesday, Japan defeated Vietnam 3-2 at their qualifying match.
