V-League champs Hanoi T&T scored a 3-1 away victory over Indonesian club Arema Malang in Group F of the AFC Cup Tuesday.
It was not as commanding a performance as their 5-1 home win over Maldivian club Maziya Sports in Hanoi’s Hang Day Stadium two weeks earlier, but the Vietnamese team showed plenty of confidence against the strong Indonesian team.
Argentine striker Gonzalo Marronkle scored first for the V-League club after 20 minutes, but Cristian Gonzales leveled for the home team from the penalty spot 10 minutes later after fullback Duy Khanh handled inside the box.
Marronkle then scored from a penalty kick and put the Vietnamese club again in the lead just before half time.
The home team launched relentless attacks but the Vietnamese absorbed the pressure before striker Van Quyet scored the visitors’ third goal in the final minutes.
Hanoi T&T next play Malaysian club Selangor in Hanoi on March 19.
