Host Vietnam defeated Thailand 2-1 on Sunday to secure the Asian Football Confederation U14 Girls' Regional Championship title that it lost to the opponent last year.
Despite the scorching sun amid a hot weather spell, both teams took turns with dangerous attacks right at the beginning of the match at the Youth Football Training Center stadium.
In the 38th minute, Anupha Noinueai scored the first goal for Thailand after taking advantage of a mistake by Vietnam defenders to defeat goalkeeper Le Thi Mai.
Vietnam leveled the scores in the 58th minute after Thu Huong got the ball from a mid-field free kick.
It was also Thu Huong who had a good pass for Van Su to score the second goal for Vietnam in the 66th minute.
In the third-place playoff on the same day, Myanmar crushed Malaysia 6-2. Myanmar also won the Fair Play title.
Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Thu Hien won the Most Valuable Player award while two of Thailand’s Nisa Romyen became Top Scorer with 8 goals.
It was Vietnam’s second title at the AFC U-14 Girls’ Regional Championship. The team won the title in 2013 but only ranked 3rd last year.
