Vietnam is leading the 7th edition of the Under-21 International Football Tournament in Ninh Thuan Province after beating Singapore 1-0 on Tuesday.

The team beat Myanmar 2-0 two days earlier.

Against Singapore, Vietnam took the lead after 11 minutes when right winger Xuan Thang skillfully went around the Singaporean goalkeeper Rudy Khairullah to score a goal.

Substitutes Shamil Sharif and Ignasius Ang helped Singapore play better after the break and they had their scoring chances but the Vietnamese players managed to hold on to the lead until the end of the game.

With six points from two wins, Vietnam is on top, followed by Sydney FC with three points from a 4-1 win over Singapore on the first day Sunday. The Socceroos did not play on Tuesday.

The reigning champs are now in third place after struggling to a 2-1 win over Myanmar on Tuesday while Myanmar and Singapore are in the fourth and last places, respectively, with zero points.

Vietnamese team coach Dinh Van Dung said the coaching staff were pleased with the result but said the Vietnamese players should take more chances and fire better shots.
