Cong Vinh and Thanh Hung found the net as Vietnam defeated hosts Malaysia 2-0 in a friendly match at the Shah Alam Stadium on Tuesday.
The Vietnamese footballers had not practiced together for very long but their combination was good and their rapid football caused a lot of difficulties for the Malaysian defenders.
Relentless attacks earned Vietnam the opener with striker Le Cong Vinh finding the net before the end of the first half.
Trong Hoang's efforts near the baseline sent the ball to an unmarked Cong Vinh whose superb header beat Malaysia's custodian.
About two minutes later, Vinh had a chance to double the score after he looped one over the Malaysian goalkeeper but a Malaysian defender stopped the ball before it crossed the line.
Less than five minutes after the break, Vietnam doubled the score after midfielder Thanh Hung took a pass from Quoc Anh on the left flank and scored from close range.
The match proved to be a good start for coach Phan Thanh Hung before his wards vie for the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Cup in December.
The team will travel to Indonesia and play their next friendly against the hosts on Saturday.
