Vietnam's number one badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh will compete at the 2011 World Badminton Championships in London from August 8-14.
There will be no cash prize for winners but they will accumulate points for the 2012 London Olympics.
Ranked seventh in the world, Minh is seeded seventh at the event and will clash with Israel's number one Misha Zilberman on Tuesday. The Israeli is ranked 72nd in the world.
If he does well at the event, Minh is expected to advance to the quarterfinals where he is likely to clash with the third seed Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark.
The men's singles champion at the tournament will get 12,000 points. If he can advance to the last eight, Minh will get 6,600 points.
The World Badminton Championships this year has attracted 600 players from 200 countries and territories.
