VFF regroups teams for U21 qualifier

Vietnam Football Federation Tuesday regrouped teams for the qualifying round of the U21 National Football Championship after three more contestants entered this year's event.

Reigning champs Nam Dinh and hosts Ninh Thuan have got first round byes. The 28 other teams have been put in four  groups for the September 1-15 qualifier.

Group A hosts Song Lam Nghe An will clash with six other teams - Hanoi T&T, Hanoi Youth, Vicem Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Ha Tinh and Thua Thien-Hue.

Group B hosts Da Nang will take on Hanoi FC, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Binh Thuan.

Group C hosts Khatoco Khanh Hoa will play Navibank Saigon, Lam Dong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, TDC Binh Duong and Saigon Xuan Thanh.

Group D hosts Dong Tam Long An will encounter Vinh Long, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang, Can Tho and Tien Giang.

The seven teams in each group will play round robin matches. The top-placed team of each group and two second-placed teams of the four groups with the most points will advance to the final round of the 16th edition of the annual Thanh Nien-sponsored contest which will take place from September 25 till October 5.
