Former Manchester United star Andrei Kanchelskis met with students at Saigon University in Ho Chi Minh City's on Sunday.
The 41-year-old former Russian right-winger said it was the first time he'd come to Vietnam and didn't know much about Vietnamese football.
Yet he said he could see how crazy Vietnamese fans are about football and appeared to be impressed with the students' wealth of knowledge about the game.
Kanchelskis played for the Soviet Union at the Euro Championship 1992 and (for Russia) at the Euro Championship in 1996.
He joined England's Premier League club, Manchester United, in 1991 when he was 21. He was capped 145 times for United and won the two consecutive Premier League championships in 1993 and 1994 as well as the FA Cup in 1994.
He played for other clubs like Ukraine's Dynamo Kiev, England's Everton, Rangers in Scotland and Fiorentina in Italy.
Kanchelskis, who scored 48 goals for United from 1991 to 1995, now coaches Torpedo-ZIL Moscow.
