Representatives of the Under-21 National Football Tournament met with the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan Province on Monday to check on preparations for the 16th edition of the annual Thanh Nien-sponsored event.
Vo Dai, Vice Chairman of the committee and chief of the local organizing board, said this was the first time Ninh Thuan has been chosen to host a national-scale youth football event.
It will be held in Phan Rang-Thap Cham Town.
"The province's officials have directed leaders of the related departments to work closely together to make the event as grand as it should be," said Dai.
According to Dai, the province's People's Committee has made a plan to spend VND45 billion to improve facilities, including the renovation of the stands of Ninh Thuan Stadium and the installation of a lighting system and the electronic signs of international standard.
Also, the local organizers are finishing two smaller stadiums in Nhon Son Commune of Ninh Son District and Van Hai Stadium in Phan Rang-Thap Cham Town for teams to practice and play group stage's final matches on.
Phan Quoc Anh, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ninh Thuan, said the lighting system at Ninh Thuan Stadium would be complete on September 15.
Nguyen Van Loc, Deputy Director of the department, said Ninh Thuan's U21 team, which consists mostly of players from Ninh Thuan and some players from clubs in neighboring provinces, will get together in mid-August.
Minh Ha, Director of Ninh Thuan's Radio and Television Broadcasting Station, said the station plans to air live coverage of about 10 of the event's matches with commentaries before, during and after the games.
Nguyen Ngoc Toan, deputy editor-in-chief of Thanh Nien newspaper and standing deputy chief of the organizing committee of the event, praised local authorities for their good preparations.
A press conference and drawing event will be held in Ninh Thuan on September 24.
