The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), along with Thanh Nien newspaper as the sponsor, has agreed to hold the the International Under-21 football championship in Ho Chi Minh City in October.
The competition will take place from October 23-31 as suggested by the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Thong Nhat Physical Training and Sports Center.
Ho Chi Minh City will host the Thang Long International Football contest in late September at Thong Nhat Stadium, the same venue as the HCMC International Football event, planned to take place in mid October. Tran Dinh Huan, manager of the Thong Nhat Physical Training and Sports Center, said Thong Nhat Stadium is looking forward to hosting an international football event for fans.
The Thanh Nien-sponsored U.21 International Football competition is expected to have six participating teams. The teams will play round-robin in two groups and the best two of each group will advance to the semifinals.
The event will take place after the AFC U.19 championships and several international teams have asked to participate. VFF and Thanh Nien will send invitations to Iran, China, Qatar, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
