Vietnam's number one badminton player, Nguyen Tien Minh, got off to a good start at the Proton Malaysia Super series, on Tuesday.
During the first round, Minh beat Sho Sasaki of Japan.
The eighth ranked Vietnamese world champion won 21-10, 25-23 against the 29th-ranked Japanese.
Minh is set to clash in the second round with Sasaki's compatriot Kazushi Kamada"” ranked 21 st in the world.
Minh has played Kamada twice and won both matches.
If he can beat Kamada again, Minh is likely to face the world's number one Malaysian, Lee Chong Wei.
Minh has played Chong Wei six times and has won only once.
