Vietnam's best badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh came back from behind to beat Zhengming Wang 2-1 in the men's singles first round at the Yonex Open Japan 2013 on Wednesday.
Like his two previous wins over the Chinese player, the fifth seed Vietnamese star had a hard time. The match lasted an hour and four minutes.
In the first set, Wang, ranked 10th by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), looked very strong and cruised to take the set 21-14.
However, the 7th-ranked Tien Minh changed his way of playing and made it much harder for Wang before winning 21-11 and 21-14 in the next two sets.
In the second round of the Super series contest, Tien Minh will clash with host player Kento Momota, standing 35th in the BWF rankings. Tien Minh has beaten Kento Momota the previous two times they met.
