Tien Minh dethroned at Yonex Australian Open

Defending champion Nguyen Tien Minh was defeated by 26th-ranked Japanese Sho Sasaki in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Yonex Grand Prix Gold Australian Open in Melbourne on Friday.

Seventh-ranked and second-seeded Minh, the only Vietnamese to enter the world's top 100, had won all of his four previous encounters with Sasaki, but displayed a dip in form as he lost 1-2.

Minh started well in the first set and kept his lead until 17-14, when the Sasaki stepped up his game to take the set 21-19.

Minh came back strongly with a 21-7 win in the second set but folded 18-21 in the decider.
