Badminton ace Nguyen Tien Minh won a quarterfinal berth at the Yonex Japan Super Series 2010 following a straight-set win over Denmark's Jan O Jorgensen on Thursday.
It took the 9th-ranked Vietnamese 40 minutes to defeat the Dane, ranked 13th in the world.
Minh had beaten Jorgensen the previous times they'd met, but after an easy first set at 21-11, the Dane came back strongly and fought Minh all the way, as the latter squeezed through 22-20.
In the quarterfinals of the September 21-26 tournament, Minh will clash with world number two, Peter Hoeg Gade, also of Denmark. The Dane beat 123rd-ranked Japanese player Takuma Ueda on Thursday.
Minh will have to play out of his skin to stand any chance of beating the Dane, having lost all previous four encounters between them.
