Vietnamese athletes won three gold medals Friday to hold on to their second position with a total of 71 golds after seven days of the SEA Games in Indonesia.
Lifter Tran Le Quoc Toan won the gold medal in the men's 56kg category after lifting a total of 280 kg, dethroning Jati Setiadi of Indonesia who lifted a total of 278kg.
Gold medal hope Thach Kim Tuan could only earn the bronze after lifting a total 271kg.
In fencing, Nguyen Thi Tuoi, Le Thi Bich and Nguyen Thi Nguyet won gold in the women's foil team event after beating the Singaporean team 30-16 in the final.
Judo martial artist Ho Ngan Giang won the men's under-60kg gold, beating Zaw Hein Latt of Myanmar in the final.
With a tally of 71 gold, 67 silver and 79 bronze medals, the Vietnamese contingent maintained their second spot behind hosts Indonesia who have a total 124 golds, 92 silvers and 84 bronze medals. Thailand is in third place with 68 gold, 64 silver and 76 bronze medals.
