Vietnam's top teenage tennis player Nguyen Hoang Thien has advanced to the singles and doubles quarterfinals of the Grade 4 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Circuit event in Wellington.

The 15-year-old, ranked 241st in the world junior rankings and seeded fifth in the tournament, booked a berth in the boys' singles quarters after beating 467th-ranked 12th seed Cameron Norrie of New Zealand 6-1, 7-6 in the third round on February 8.

In the quarters, Thien will clash with 538th-ranked Kangaroo Jacob Sullivan who upset 110th-ranked top seed Kiwi, Jaden Grinter, in the third round.

In the boys doubles event, Hoang Thien, who is paired with Australia's Jack Schipanski, received a first round bye.

The duo then eased past the pair of Lawrence Bataljin (Australia) and Ito Yuya (Japan) 6-0, 6-1 in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals.
