Ta Thanh Xinh of Binh Thuan Province won a 7.7km race up the Ba Ra Mountain in Phuoc Long Town of Binh Phuoc Province on Thursday.
Xinh covered the distance in 34'35,'' breaking the record he set last year by 10 seconds. Nguyen Dang Duc Bao from Khanh Hoa finished second while Bui Ngoc Tuan of the Military team was third.
In the women's category, Nguyen Dang Thanh Thuy from Khanh Hoa won the race with a time of 33'31'' ahead of second-placed Nguyen Thi Dong from Hanoi and third-placed Le Thi Kha Ly of Ho Chi Minh City.
Runners from Gia Lai Province won the men's team category prize while the women's team title went to athletes from Khanh Hoa.
Khanh Hoa athletes also won the team title in the professional category while the amateur or grassroots category team championship was taken by runners from the Phu Rieng Rubber Company.
The event was held to celebrate the 36th anniversary of the liberation of Phuoc Long Town. It also attracted four foreign teams from Laos, Thailand and Cambodia.
