Truong Thanh Hang finished first in the women's 5km race in 17 minutes and 10 seconds at the 2011 national races in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong on Sunday (March 20).
Last year, Hang, who won the silver medal in the women's 1,500m race at the 16th Asian Games in 2010, could only finish third but this year the 800m and 1,500m Southeast Asian champion took the title.
It was her fifth championship in the women's 5km category in the annual national races which have been organized for 52 years.
Nguyen Dang Thanh Thuy finished second and Nguyen Thi Phuong was third.
In the men's 10km race, Nguyen Van Lai of the military team took giant strides towards the end to finish first after 33 minutes and 24.89 seconds. Title contender Nguyen Dang Duc Bao from Khanh Hoa Province could only finish third behind second-placed Nguyen Ngoc Quang of Dong Nai.
In other action, Nguyen Van Long from Gia Lai Province won the men's half-marathon event ahead of Nguyen Truong Sinh of the same province and Nguyen Quang Phuong of Lam Dong.
The women's half-marathon contest was won by Pham Thi Binh of Quang Ngai, followed by Pham Thi Hien of Thai Binh and Le Thi Kha Ly of Ho Chi Minh City.
