Already securing a place in the semifinals, Thanh Nien Newspaper Vietnam had a 1-1 draw with Thailand at Thanh Nien Newspaper’s U21 International Football Tournament in Can Tho on Thursday.
Thailand, which had a 2-2 draw against Singapore on October 21, took the lead against Thanh Nien Newspaper Vietnam after Sruamprakum got a pass from the left wing to defeat goalkeeper Van Cong with a close shot in the 11th minute.
Vietnam rushed to attack and Van Dai equalized the score with a hard shot past several Thailand defenders and goalkeeper Khunpiam.
The host team had more ball possession in the second half but no more goal was scored.
With a draw against Thailand and 3-0 win over Singapore, Thanh Nien Newspaper Vietnam ranked first in Group A with four points, followed by Thailand with two points and Singapore with one point.
Earlier, Malaysia and Hoang Anh Gia Lai Arsenal JMG advanced to semifinals on a lucky draw in which Sydney was disqualified, after the three teams of Group B each had three points and zero goal difference.
In semifinals, Thanh Nien Newspaper Vietnam will play Hoang Anh Gia Lai Arsenal JMG at 6 p.m. on Saturday (October 25), while Thailand will play Malaysia at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday (October 26).
The final match is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Tuesday (October 28).
