An all-win Vietnam in group matches could not extend its streak of success in the final match of the 2015 AFF U19 Championship at the Laos National Stadium on Friday.
Each team took turn to attack in the beginning before Thailand started putting pressure on Vietnam’s goalkeeper Thanh Tuan from the 25th minute.
Thailand took the lead in the 44th minute after a shot by Worachit Kanitsribumphen hit the leg of Vietnam’s defender Viet Anh, changed its course and defeated goalkeeper Thanh Tuan.
In the second half, Vietnam rushed to attack in a failed attempt to level the score, which led to a counterattack. Suksan Mungpao scored the second goal for Thailand after receiving a pass across Vietnam’s defenders.
In the 69th minute, Ritthidet Phensawat shot from the corner to score the third goal for Thailand.
The third goal has prompted Thailand’s fans to light fireworks on the stadium and fight back local security forces who tried to stop them. Many of them were later forced out of the stadium.
In the 83rd minute, Worachit scored his second goal from a close distance shot.
The 4th goal for Thailand came from a penalty kick by Anon Amornlertsak, after a controversial fall of Adisak Kansangwet in the box.
It was Anon who scored two more goals for Thailand in the last minutes.
Thailand claimed the crown at the championship while Vietnam ranked second.
Before the match, Vietnam’s Coach Hoang Anh Tuan said his players had achieved his original goal, by defeating host Laos 4-0 in the semifinal match.
Earlier on the same day, Laos secured the third place with a 3-2 victory in penalty shootouts after a 1-1 draw.
