Thailand defeated Vietnam 1-0 in a tough 2018 World Cup qualifying match at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on Sunday.
Both teams kicked off the match with fast attacks and tough blocks in the first half.
The absence of defender Chi Cong, who suffered a muscle tension in a training session ahead of the match, has exerted increased pressured on Ngoc Hai and Huy Cuong, who did not have good coordination in blocking Thailand’s attacks.
In the 73rd minute, Minh Chau was sent off after picking up his second yellow card.
Thailand took advantage of outnumbering Vietnam, sending striker Adisak to replace defender Kroekrit.
In the 81st minute, Pokklaw scored the match’s only goal for Thailand with a long distance shot that defeated Vietnam's goalkeeper To Vinh Loi.
In Group F, Vietnam will play Indonesia on September 3, Chinese Taipei on September 8 and Iraq on October 8 in the first leg.
