Sixteen-year-old Huynh Phuong Dai Trang upset country’s No.1 woman tennis player Huynh Mai Huynh 2-1 in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday to win the National Women’s Singles Tennis Championship 2009.

Both players showed beautiful performances and excited the spectators at the Phu Tho Sports Center.

Dai Trang played impressively and took the first set 6-2, but Mai Huynh fought back exceptionally to win the second set 6-3.

“I just couldn’t lift my arm in the decider,” said Mai Huynh, who failed to defend her title on her 25th birthday on Christmas Day.

In the men’s singles event, Bui Tri Nguyen almost shocked the country’s No.1 player Do Minh Quan.

Quan led 5-1 in the first set but then exciting support from the fans lifted Nguyen’s spirits and he won six consecutive games to take the set 7-5.

In the second set, Quan kept calm and won 6-1 before taking the decider 6-0 to defend his title successfully.
