Teenage tennis prodigy takes ITF U18 title in Bac Lieu

Nguyen Hoang Thien, 15, took the boy's singles championship at the Under-18 International Tennis Federation Grade 5 event in Bac Lieu Province, on Saturday.

Thien took the title after trouncing his Taiwanese rival, Cheng Kuang Yu, 6-2, 6-2 in the final match.

Ah Song from the Republic of Korea won the girls' singles championship after beating Danish rival Lina Akesson in straight sets.

The boys' doubles title went to Hwang Wei-Jie and Lee Li-Lun from Taiwan while the girls' doubles championship was won by Thai sisters Sawanya Vasupongchai and Yada Vasupongchai.

After this event, Vietnam's teenage star, Thien, is set to participate in another U18 ITF Grade 5 contest to be held in Binh Duong Province from October 11-16.

Thien made a splash when he wonthe U18 ITF event in Binh Duong, in October 2008 and then went on to sweep the Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship in Florida in December 2009.
