Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Tuan Anh has been named chairman of the Vietnam Olympic Committee.

At a meeting in Hanoi Sunday, delegates also nominated eight vice chairmen.

Tran Van Manh, office manager in the previous term, was appointed General Secretary, and the meeting also named 29 members to the standing committee, including Nguyen Quang Thong, editor-in-chief of Thanh Nien.

The meeting reviewed some major events successfully organized during the previous term, and agreed to bid for the 2016 Asian Beach Games and 2019 Asian Games.

Delegates unanimously agreed that it was best to promote the country's image through sports and that it was vital to invest more in sports, especially those that require mental ability and skill.

Anh said VOC will "say no to drugs."

Also, "[we] will pay special attention to things like building more training facilities, starting a Vietnam Olympic magazine, and building a Vietnam Olympic museum," he said.

The committee would also concentrate on establishing sports federations, selecting athletes to train for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, school-level sports, teaching children to swim, and raising funds, he added.
