The Vietnamese table tennis team's dream of going to the 2012 London Olympics has ended after its key players were defeated at the Feb 4-5 Southeast Asian qualification tournament in Bangkok.

Tuan Quynh and Viet Linh were both easily beaten by their Singaporean opponents in the semifinals on Sunday, according to the website VnExpress.

In the men's category, Quynh, ranked 251st in the world, quickly lost 4-0 to Zhan Jian, ranked 48th in the world. Linh was defeated 4-0 by Li Jiawei, ranked 14th, in the women's event.

As a rule, the champions of the Southeast Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament qualify for the Olympic Games.

However, Vietnam's Olympic Committee is expecting the International Olympic Committee to grant a Vietnamese player a wild card berth. The committee has recommended that Tuan Quynh be chosen for the honor.
