Vietnam defeated Malaysia 5-1 in a 2015 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games’ Group B match at the Bishan Stadium in Singapore on Tuesday.
Both teams pushed to high speed at the beginning of the match and a goal by Huy Toan in the 11th minute was rejected for his offside position.
Just two minutes later, Vietnam took the lead after Cong Phuong was brought down in the box and Mac Hong Quan finished his penalty kick successfully.
Vietnam continued to attack with dangerous shots by Cong Phuong, Huy Toan and Mach Hong Quan.
In the 45th minute, Cong Phuong scored the second goal for Vietnam after getting a good pass from Mac Hong Quan and defeated Malaysia’s goalkeeper Abu Baku.
In the first minute of the second half, it was Baku who committed a fault against Cong Phuong in his speed attack. Huy Toan was successful with his penalty kick to up the score to 3-0.
In the 53rd minute, Cong Phuong had a technical free kick to the far corner, defeating Baku to score the fourth goal for Vietnam.
In the 78th minute, Azwari scored the only goal for Malaysia after getting the ball that bounced out from Vietnam’s goalkeeper Phi Minh Long.
Van Toan, who was sent to the field to replace Ho Ngoc Thang in the 73rd minute, scored the fifth goal for Vietnam and his first goal for the national team.
Vietnam so far has 6 points to lead Group B after defeating Brunei 6-0 in the previous match.
In the next matches, Vietnam will play Laos on June 4 and Timor Leste on June 7 and Thailand on June 10.
