Saigon Heat fought hard to steal a 66-63 win on the road over the San Miguel Beermen in the Philippines in the 13th round of the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) on Saturday.

Earlier in the season, Saigon lost to San Miguel 85-62, making the Heat heavy underdogs entering the game.

The Heat had lost two straight at home after ending a season opening seven game losing streak by winning three in a row.

This time out against the Beermen, the Heat employed a zone defense to slow the tempo and keep their thin lineup rested.

And head coach Jason Rabedeaux's strategy worked.

Vietnam's first professional basketball club led the squad from the Philippines 32-30 at halftime and extended the difference to 10 in the third quarter.

The Beermen made a late run, but the Heat were able to hold on, thanks to the clutch free throw shooting of star small forward Jahmar Thorpe.

The Heat next play at home against the Warriors from Indonesia at Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Binh Sports Center in the 14th round of the ABL season next Wednesday.
