The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) on Wednesday decided to suspend Hai Lam, central fullback for V-League champions Da Nang, for four matches for giving the finger to an opponent on Sunday.
Nguyen Hai Huong, manager of VFF's penalty department, said Lam was penalized based on the league's Article 47 dealing with a provocative act.
Huong said the video recording clearly showed that Lam showed the finger four or five times during the match against Hoa Phat Hanoi, which means he did it deliberately, rather than spontaneously. Da Nang won the game by the score of 4-3.
In other action relating to the 10th round V-League matches on May 2, the penalty department decided to fine the management of Thanh Hoa Stadium VND15 million (US$790) for not maintaining order.
During the match between hosts Thanh Hoa and Hanoi T&T, some spectators hurled abuse at the referees and threw hard objects from the stands, making it impossible for the referees to go to the locker room during the break. Hanoi T&T suffered a 1-2 away defeat to Thanh Hoa.
