Binh Duong escaped last place with a 5-2 road victory over Dong Tam Long An (DTLA) in the 15th round of the V-League play at Long An Stadium on Sunday.

The match was of great significance for the two former league champions, as they were both fighting to avoid being relegated to the 2nd flight First Division.

DTLA was without their best striker Viet Thang, and were undermanned against Binh Duong.

The hosts did not look ready in the first half, and the visitors took an early 2-0 lead.

After the break, the visitors continued to be the better side and scored their third goal before the host team finally bounced back to make it 3-2.

However, Binh Duong scored two goals in the final minutes to secure the win.

After the defeat, DTLA is now in the cellar with only 11 points, while Binh Duong is two places above with 15 points.

In other action, the league's top striker Le Cong Vinh scored his 13th goal of the season on a free kick to put Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) ahead in its match against Ninh Binh. However, Van Ta later tied the score.

The draw caused SLNA to relinquish first place to Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL), which took a 1-0 home win over Hai Phong on Saturday to lead the league with 27 points.

SLNA has 26 points, tying reigning champs Da Nang and Hanoi T&T, although both those teams have played only 14 games.

The First Division season finished with champions Quang Nam, and Than Quang Ninh and An Giang due to be promoted to the V-League next season.
