Reigning champions Dong Nai have advanced to the semifinals of the U21 National Football Championships in Binh Duong Province after their second win over Dong Thap on Monday.
With three points already in hand from their win over Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) in their first match, the defending champs started the game in high spirits.
However, despite creating many clear chances, Dong Nai didn't score the opener until midway through the second half when Anh Vu collected a neat pass from captain The Hung and beat Dong Thap's goalkeeper Hoai Thanh.
Nguyen Sa scored the second goal for Dong Nai from a spot kick in the final seconds after Dong Thap's Trong Thu tackled Phuong Tam in the penalty area.
The champions have secured a semifinal berth because they are now leading Group B with six points while second-placed Song Lam Nghe An have two points each after two draws and HAGL and Dong Thap each have one point after one draw and one loss.
Hosts Binh Duong lead Group A, with six points after two wins while second-placed V&V United and third-placed Nam Dinh each have three points while Dong Tam Long An languishes at the bottom with zero points.
The 11-day 15th edition of the Thanh Nien-sponsored U21 Football event will end on September 18.
