Hoang Van Phuc still wants to coach Vietnam's Under-23 football team even though the national team has suffered two consecutive losses under his watch at the 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Phuc said he felt he was respected after Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Chairman Nguyen Trong Hy called him the most suitable candidate to coach the national team and the U23 team.

Phuc said, "Now, my contract as a temporary coach has ended and if the managers at the General Department of Physical Training and Sports and VFF's standing committee still assign me to the task [coaching the national team and the U23 team], I and the assistant coaches will try to do the job the best way.

"I think the national team now has little hope of qualifying for the 2015 Asian Cup, so the young players of the U23 team should be given to chance to play in the next matches [of the 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers] in October. It is a good chance to prepare them for the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar [in December]."

Although VFF Chairman Hy said he supports coach Phuc, VFF's standing committee will still need to have a meeting to receive opinions from its steering committee before a final decision can be made.
