Hundreds of local and overseas athletes are expected to compete at the Phu Quoc International Marathon on June 11, the world’s first full international marathon held on an island.
Participants will enjoy a scenic race down the southern half of Phu Quoc, dubbed Pearl Island, with one of the most scenic stretches of beaches in South-East Asia, the organizer Sporting Republic said in a release.
Many events are scheduled, including the main race of 42km full marathon, the shorter 21km half marathon, 10km, 5km and a 1km kids race. All races will finish at the Long Beach Resort Phu Quoc, where athletes are welcome to run straight into the refreshing ocean.
Marcel Lennartz, Sporting Republic race director said the International Marathon will be an historic event for Phu Quoc as it is the first international full marathon running event on the island.
“The marathon will also allow participants to enjoy some of the best of what our island has to offer– not only the beautiful beaches, but also the sights and sounds off the main roads,” he said.
Registration for the event is now open at www.sportingrepublic.com/phuquocmarathon, with fees from US$8-68.
