The Asian Athletics Association Wednesday invited seven Vietnamese athletes to the Asian Grand Prix to be held in Thailand in May.
The seven are sprinter Vu Thi Huong (women's 100m), Truong Thanh Hang and Do Thi Thao (women's 800m), Duong Thi Viet Anh (women's high jump), Nguyen Thi Thuy (women's 400m), Duong Van Thai (men's 800 m), and Nguyen Van Hung (men's triple jump).
The event will be held in three stages -- the first on May 6 in Bangkok, the second on the 11th in Kanchanaburi, and the third on the 14th in Nakomratsima.
To win passage to the London Olympics, Huong must meet the B standard of finishing the 100 m in 11.38 seconds, Hang must finish the women's 800m in 2 minutes 1.30 seconds, and Viet Anh must jump 1.92 meters.
Hang's personal best is 2:00:91 at the 2010 Asian Games, but Huong and Anh have never achieved the Olympics qualifying requirements.
